Octav Băncilă a făcut studiile la Școala de Arte Frumoase din Iași și i-a avut ca profesori pe Gheorghe Panaiteanu-Bardasare și Constantin Stahi. A urmat în perioada 1893-1898, Academia de Arte Frumoase din München.Octav Băncilă a lăsat posterității o operă caracterizată de un realism critic foarte puternic, artistul fiind cunoscut ca un deschizător de drumuri și ca Pictorul răscoalelor de la 1907.
